Choosing props for your brand shoot

Your personal brand shoot is a chance to showcase not only yourself as the business owner but also what you do! The most important “prop” for your personal brand shoot is YOU, obviously 🙂 But, choosing other props for your personal brand shoot is super important!

I always tell my clients that they can bring as many or as few props as they want. What I’d rather is that the props are intentionally chosen. Here are three big questions I encourage you to think about to help you in choosing your props:

“Does this prop help show what makes my brand UNIQUE?”

“Does this prop help share my PERSONALITY?”

“Does this prop help show my PROCESS?”

Much of your personal brand shoot is “acting” – acting out the different parts of your process, showcasing a system you’ve perfected, creating “mock” situations, showing your personality to be captured on camera, etc. Props can make this a lot easier! For example, it’s hard to showcase you doing a client Zoom call if you don’t have your laptop or phone as a prop…am I right?

Here’s a list of some props you might consider bringing to your personal brand shoot:

• Laptop (don’t forget about your laptop case – this can be a place to bring in your brand colors/personality)
• Phone (including your phone case!)
• Camera (polaroid, DSLR, point-and-shoot, disposable)
• Office Supplies (pens, pencils, highlighters, sticky notes)
• Business cards/brochures
• Notebooks
• Planner
• Favorite books
• Coffee mug (reuseable travel, favorite coffee shop to-go cup, mug)
• Favorite water bottle
• Magazine/relevant publication
• Artwork
• Welcome gifts
• Flowers (fresh or dried – add your brand style with the vase)
• Favorite beverage (tea, coffee, soda, wine, champagne, cocktail, favorite Starbucks drink)
• Favorite food/candy
• Accessories (hat, blue light glasses, sunglasses)
• Seasonal Items

The idea is not to bring every single item on the list because, likely not all of them would make sense for you and your brand. When choosing props, also think about the color scheme of items. If you have brand colors, think about how you can incorporate those colors in your props (ie: phone case, laptop case, coffee mug, vases, etc.). These little details go a long way to help build consistency across the images and showcase your brand a cohesive way 👏👏👏
