Shannon Jackson, an Anxiety Coach at A Healthy Push, wanted brand photos that captured her warmth and down-to-earth personality.
From the start, Shannon made it clear she wasn’t looking for traditional branding photos. She didn’t want pictures of her working on her laptop or posing with her phone. During our pre-shoot video chat, Shannon explained that she wanted the photos to capture the idea of freedom (because who doesn’t want to be freed from anxiety?!). We talked about ideas of what this would look like along with other strategic content that would support her business and the impact it has.
Shannon has done several brand shoots with different photographers, but this was the first time she had worked with someone (yours truly!) who exclusively does brand photography. One thing that was new for Shannon was our pre-shoot planning and strategy call, which she loved! Because we had met virtually before our shoot, she was already more at ease when she walked into the studio (exactly what I hoped for!).
When Shannon opened the door to Evermore Place, she was greeted by a playlist of her favorite artists that I curated for her. Sure, meeting virtually can help calm the nerves on the big day, but being serenaded by Noah Kahan? Instant relaxation!
Shannon had such a calm and gentle presence. She only two main props to her shoot: her mug with her favorite tea and a laptop. When people book the Deluxe Package, they usually bring several props, but again, Shannon didn’t want traditional brand photos. In fact, the only staged “branding photo” I took was her cozying up on the couch as if she were on a coaching call!
Our main focus in the studio was capturing personality headshots. We used a couple of the plain backdrops (pecan and coco–the names sound like a great dessert!) to create a minimalist vibe that really highlighted her–no props, no distractions, just pure Shannon magic!
After about two hours in the studio, we ventured to a secret outdoor location to capture Shannon in her element.
For the outside portion of the shoot, Shannon wanted photos that showcased her love of nature. As an avid skier, hiker, and mountain biker, she was totally at ease amongst the trees! She strapped on her hiking boots and put on her backpack, and we captured Shannon where she is most comfortable.
The fun thing about a personal brand is that every brand is so different. Brand photos don’t need to be traditional, and I love that Shannon pushed the boundaries of a typical brand shoot! She left the shoot with new headshots for her podcast and website, as well as a whole gallery of photos for her socials.
