Whether you’ve done a brand shoot before or not, preparing for your brand shoot is FUN! And, I want it to be a stress-free experience so I’m here to give you my best tips and tricks to make sure you are feeling great at your session. Ready for the tips?!
be COMFY
This is number one for a reason… Have you ever sat down in a pair of pants that were snug on the waist and then regretted every minute of it? We all have! Don’t do that to yourself for your shoot (or ever, really – clothes should serve you and fit the body you have right then and there!) – wear outfits that are comfy for you and your style. These photos should be a reflection of who YOU are and when you’re comfy, that’s more apt to shine through!
think about the DETAILS
Take a peek at your outfits and cut the hanger ribbons from shirts/sweaters so they don’t accidentally sneak out during your session (you know those annoying things that are put on the inside of your shirts so you can hang them but nobody does?! Cut those out!). Also, make sure your clothes are stain and wrinkle-free the day of your session. Bring them to your session on hangers if you can – anything helps. Also, any of my fellow pet owners (I’m over here with my two fluffy orange kitties), don’t forget to lint roll!
think VARIETY
Do you have brand colors? Or a color palette that fits the vibe of your brand? If so, now’s a great time to incorporate those brand colors in a subtle but impactful way! One thing to be aware of is that if your brand color is a neon color, sometimes the color can reflect on the face in photos. Keep that in mind but if it’s key to your brand, I say go for it! Overall, think variety in terms of color and style. A few ideas? Jeans and a dressy shirt (maybe pop on a blazer for those more professional headshots) and a flowy maxi dress for more fun photos. Pro tip: grab some fun jewelry or accessories to mix up a look with minimal extra effort.
my BIGGEST tip
My biggest tip?! Remember that your brand is YOUR personality and part of how we express that is through how we dress! For example, if you’re a wilderness guide, wearing a suit for your shoot wouldn’t likely make sense. But if you’re a realtor, wearing a suit may totally make sense! Think about your uniqueness – your audience wants to see it!
And know this – you don’t have to buy all new clothes, shoes, and accessories for your shoot but if you want to, you can! There are no expectations when it comes to your brand shoot wardrobe EXCEPT that it’s a reflection of you and your brand!
